We are excited to announce a 12-month internship opportunity for one learner support and peer-to-peer educator intern based at our Hillbrow office. This opportunity is open to candidates who:
* * Are between the ages of 18 and 34;
* Have never held a full-time position before, and preferably have not participated in a learnership or internship before;
* Are South African Citizens;
* Have a minimum qualification of Matric;
* Must have the following qualifications: Further education in teaching, social work, or community development is an advantage; volunteering in tutoring, mentoring, or community work is beneficial. Must have basic computer literacy;
* Are not currently in full-time studies and can attend this internship full-time;
* Are willing to be subjected to a credit and criminal check or any industry-specific checks required for your role; and
* Live within 50km of our office, which is situated at 30 Edith Cavell Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
The internship starts on the 1st of July 2026 and ends on the 30th of June 2027.
Purpose of the role: To provide academic, emotional, and social support to learners, while promoting peer learning, mentorship, and positive behavioural change through structured peer-to-peer education activities for high school-going learners. The programme offers training specifically for unemployed youth aged 18 to 34.
Key responsibilities:
1. Academic Support
- Assist learners with homework, assignments, and exam preparation
- Provide tutoring in subjects such as Mathematics, English, and other key learning areas (working hand in hand with the TLT volunteers to create a consistent Homework support program)
- Monitor learner progress and provide feedback
2. Peer Education & Mentorship
- Facilitate peer-to-peer learning sessions and group discussions
- Act as a positive role model for learners
- Deliver educational sessions on topics such as life skills, health awareness, career guidance, and personal development
- Encourage learner participation, leadership, and collaboration
Required skills and competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with children and young people from diverse backgrounds
- Basic facilitation and teaching skills
- Patience, empathy, and a supportive attitude
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Passion for youth development and education
