Paralegal position available in Musina

Job Advert: Paralegal (Musina)

  • Reporting to the Team Leader;
  • Collaborating with the community development workers and other stakeholders as required;
  • Managing the caseload from intake through processing, exit and filing;
  • Preparing applications for renewals (asylum and refugee status) and secondary benefits for
    foreign nationals;
  • Assist with newcomer orientation, preparation and representation;
  • Accompany participants to government departments and representation;
  • Assist and advise with late registration of birth;
  • Advice with VFS applications;
  • Advocate for migrant and refugee participation, social inclusion and public participation;
  • Organise quarterly stakeholder meetings to strengthen efforts in networking, communication,
    and keeping up to date with the latest legislation on migration, refugees, and citizens;
  • Keeping clients informed of the progress of their cases;
  • Ability to manage immigration inquiries, gather required information, and keep clients
    informed of progress;
  • Maintaining hard copy files and entering data into an immigration case management system;
  • Responding to immigration inquiries promptly and adhering to submission deadlines; and
  • Participate in regular community outreaches and campaigns in Musina and surrounding rural
    communities.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Completed LLB degree or Paralegal qualifications;
  • Ability to collaborate with immigration attorneys and regional paralegal managers;
  • A strong willingness to engage with, learn and understand the challenges related to visa,
    permanent residency, and secondary benefit applications;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Good understanding of the migration and refugee legal framework;
  • A passion for and understanding of migration;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent MS Office and spreadsheet/database development skills;
  • Able to handle multiple projects, prioritise work and work effectively under limited
    supervision;
  • Able to work under pressure and deliver under short timeframes;
  • Good project management skills; and
  • Having a Code 8 driving licence will be beneficial but is not a prerequisite.
