Reporting person – The Musina office Team Leader
Job description
- Manage and support an integrated legal support process at the Musina office.
- Manage the caseload, legal referrals, daily walk-ins, and take them through processing, exit and filing;
- Prepare applications for renewals (asylum and refugee status) and secondary support for foreign nationals;
- Assist with newcomer orientation, preparation and representation;
- Accompany participants to government departments and representation;
- Assist and advise with late registration of births;
- Provide advice on VFS applications;
- Advocate for migrant and refugee participation, social inclusion and public participation;
- Organise quarterly stakeholder meetings to strengthen efforts in networking, communication, and keeping up to date with the latest legislation on migration, refugees, and citizens;
- Keep clients informed of the progress of their cases;
- Manage immigration inquiries, gather required information, and keep clients informed of progress;
- Maintain hard copy files and enter data into an immigration case management system;
- Respond to immigration inquiries promptly and adhere to submission deadlines; and
- Participate in regular community outreaches and campaigns in Musina and surrounding rural communities.
Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications
- Must have completed an LLB degree or have paralegal qualifications;
- Must have the ability to collaborate with immigration attorneys and regional paralegal managers;
- Must have a strong willingness to engage with, learn, and understand the challenges related to visa, permanent residency, and secondary benefit applications;
- Must be detail-oriented;
- Must have a good understanding of the migration and refugee legal framework or a willingness to learn more about the migration and refugee legal framework.
- Must have a passion for and an understanding of migration;
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Must have excellent MS Office and spreadsheet/database development skills;
- Must be able to handle multiple projects, prioritise work and work effectively under limited supervision;
- Must be able to work under pressure and deliver under short timeframes;
- Must have good project management skills; and
- Having a Code 8 driving licence will be beneficial but is not a prerequisite.
