#Empowering Human Rights: A Step Closer to a Brighter Future
Outreach Foundation’s Human Rights Workshops in Pretoria, Hillbrow, and Mpumalanga were a success. They were a movement towards creating a society where every individual’s rights are respected and protected.
What We Achieved
– Awareness and Education: We brought together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss pressing human rights issues and potential solutions.
In Hillbrow, we were very fortunate to collaborate and partner on the event with organisations like FirstRand, Rosebank College, the Department of Education, Lawyers for Human Rights, and Life Line, amongst others, who joined forces with us to drive positive change and empower individuals to voice their concerns, share experiences, and learn from one another.
The Pretoria office had one stakeholder, Zaminthuthuko Primary School. The workshop was aimed at enhancing clients’ understanding of human rights through the Outreach Foundation’s services. The team delivered three presentations:
Social Services: This included psychosocial support, educational assistance, SASSA services, and collaboration with NGOs and government in Gauteng, serving South African citizens, economic migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees.
Skills Development: An overview of available training programmes offered at the Pretoria office.
Legal Challenges: The legal team addressed issues faced by South Africans and migrants, such as undocumented status, delayed birth registration, and guidance on Visa and Permit applications.
Our Mpumalanga office invited various stakeholders, including the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Health (Local Clinics), IOM Change Agents, Scalabrini Mozambique, and Thembalethu Nkomazi to its workshop.
Not only did they raise various issues affecting the people living in Tonga lock B, but Outreach Foundation and its partners also discussed the various legal procedures required by the government, their human rights, and conducted one-on-one support sessions with participants.
Why Human Rights Matter
Human rights are the foundation of a just and equitable society. They protect our dignity, freedom, and well-being. By promoting human rights, we can:
– Foster a culture of respect and empathy
– Address social injustices and inequalities
– Empower marginalized communities
