Hello, my name is Omphemetse. When I first came to Outreach Foundation, I joined their After-School Care Programme with my siblings. As a slow learner, I found the programme incredibly helpful. The teachers dedicated their time to ensuring that I understood and grasped everything. One day, Mr Themba visited our after-school class looking for students interested in learning Marimba. He spoke to our teacher and selected three learners, including my sister. Curious, my siblings and I followed my sister to Marimba practice. I was amazed by the instruments they used to play music.
From that day on, I encouraged my sister to attend Outreach Foundation’s Marimba practice every day, as I was eager to learn, too. The instructor, Mr Themba, welcomed me to be part of the team. Bra Themba recognised my passion for Marimba and took me under his wing. This led to me attending major Marimba events with him. I even earned numerous Marimba certificates. It was then that I realised that music is my true calling, and I want to pursue it as a career.
On May 13th, 2023, I became a piano student under the guidance of Mr James, Outreach Foundation’s talented piano teacher. During this time, Mr James introduced me to the volunteering programme offered by the Outreach Foundation. Intrigued, I decided to apply, even though I had only completed grade 11 and hadn’t reached matric. To my surprise and delight, I was selected for the programme by the organisation.
I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. If it weren’t for Outreach Foundation, I would have never discovered my love for music.
The organisation not only provided me with piano lessons but also exposed me to various other things, such as pottery and business skills. I am truly thankful to Outreach Foundation for transforming my life and giving me the chance to pursue my passion for music. I am excited to be part of an organisation that is dedicated to empowering individuals and making a positive impact in the community. Thank you, Outreach Foundation, for believing in me and helping me realise my potential.
