“In 2021, my life was a struggle. I was trying to make ends meet by selling makeup and nail supplies on Small Street in Johannesburg. It was a daily grind, and I often wondered if this was all there was to life.
Then, a friend who was a student at Outreach Foundation advised me to take the Beautician course offered at the organisation. I was skeptical at first, but something about it resonated with me. I decided to take the leap and enroll in the course. Little did I know that this decision would change my life forever.
The beautician course at Outreach Foundation was more than just a training programme, it was a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
I worked hard, pouring my heart and soul into every lesson, project, and assignment.
The day finally arrived when I received my certification as a makeup technician, nail technician, and eyelash technician. I was overjoyed, proud of myself, and grateful to Outreach Foundation for believing in me.
But my journey didn’t end there. With my newfound skills and confidence, I started building a successful career in the beauty industry. Today, I am the co-owner of a thriving beauty salon, where I get to do what I love every day.
On top of that, the Outreach Foundation also helped me secure a part-time job as a facilitator intern for the Gold Youth Programme. It feels incredible to give back to the community that has given me so much.
Looking back on my journey, I am filled with gratitude and humility. I reflect on the struggles I faced, the doubts I had, and the fears that held me back. But I also remember the triumphs, successes, and lives I’ve touched along the way.
Today, I am proud to say that I can provide for my family, thanks to the skills and knowledge I gained at Outreach Foundation. More than that, I’ve gained a sense of purpose, belonging, and fulfillment.
If you’re reading this and struggling to find your way, I want you to know that there is hope. There is a way out of the darkness and into the light. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it.
