Sewing and Design Intern

Job description

A key outcome of this position would be to coordinate the Sewing Incubation (student who completed the sewing training) as part of the small business in the informal economy and also to facilitate business and entrepreneurship training as part of the skills development unit of the Outreach Foundation.

The skills development centre offers training specifically to unemployed youth between the ages of 18- 34.

Job Responsibilities

To assist students in using their skills to produce clothing products generating income;

To enhance the capabilities of students that they gained in the sewing class;

To improve the possibilities and opportunities for students to become economically independent;

To function as part of a multidisciplinary team that guides students’ progress during incubation and primarily addresses key gaps and needs identified by participants in the incubation process;

To link students to markets;

To continually do research on what is relevant in the job market; and

To run the embroidery machine as part of a team as a viable income-generating opportunity for the Outreach Foundation.

Qualities

Must have managed small start-ups before and must understand the informal economy;

Must be a risk-taker;

Independent thinker that is willing to take chances and must be afraid of challenges; and

Must have experience in Sewing.

Qualifications

The candidate must at least have qualified with a certificate, degree or diploma in Fashion design (sewing)

Requirements:
* Be between the ages of 18 and 34;
* Have never had any formal employment;
* Be a South African Citizen;
* Must have the above qualifications;
* Are not currently in full-time studies and can attend this internship full-time;
* Add a cover letter stating why you want to do the internship and specify which
city/town you are applying for; and
* We will also require a completed application form, a certified copy of your ID no
older than 3 months, and a certified copy of your highest qualification.

The start date of the internship is the 1st of July 2024, and the end date is the 30th of June 2025.
