Support the Food Walk to help others in need

Long-time Outreach Foundation ambassador and champion, Monique Dalka, has embarked on a ‘food walk’ with the intention of raising funds for Outreach Foundation.

Since the COVID-19 lockdown started in South Africa on 26 March 2020,  Monique felt the need to contribute somehow to her community. She sewed masks but in between doing that, she heard from people around her how hungry they were and how they weren’t sure they’d survive as there was no money coming in as they weren’t allowed to work. She responded by helping those she could, but wondered how to help those who didn’t have people like her to assist.

“I heard about a friend’s granddaughter who raised R6,150 for the COVID-19 families food meal plan by running around their house during the lockdown,” said Monique.

“It became very clear as to what I could do. I love hiking and I thought of walking for charity during the time allowed for exercise – 06h00 and 09h00 each day.

“I contacted Robert Michel from the Outreach Foundation and told him what I’d like to do and he was excited about the prospect.

“On Saturday, 16 May 2020, ‘The Food Walk’ was created and on the 17 May, the walk started.”

Monique will walk for 12km per day for 12 days during the short exercise period given during lockdown. She is due to finish the 144km she has committed to walking for the needy, on the 28 May 2020.

All money raised will go towards assisting Outreach Foundation in providing food vouchers to needy families in Hillbrow, which will sustain them for a month.

Says Monique: “Please support me in my effort to ‘be the change I want to see’ and donate towards my food walk.”
