Outreach Foundation’s staff had the privilege of joining Phoenix College, Trinity House, Roly Poly Creche and Rooftop gardener, Sibongile Cele to celebrate Madiba’s 100th birthday.

Together we planted beans with the children of Roly Poly in recycled plastic bottles supplied by Outreach Foundation’s Boitumelo. The students from Phoenix College and Trinity House helped the kids with the planting and we all can’t wait to see the beans and tomatoes grow. The kids have the responsibility of watering them weekly. We are inspiring the children to be future farmers one seed at a time. The rooftop garden we have on our premises aims to not only provide a sustainable food source in Hillbrow but is an inspiration to these children.

In addition to the planting, we cleaned doors, entrances and painted blackboards ready for future signage. We also prepared food for the very hungry and exhausted, but happy visitors.
We’d like to thank everyone for their participation and support for this very special day.
