Event: Hillbrowfication

Outreach FoundationA message from Gerard Bester, Programme Manager for the Hillbrow Theatre:

On 9 March 2018, a truly wonderful collaborative work, Hillbrowfication, opened at the Hillbrow Theatre as part of the 30th anniversary of the Dance Umbrella Festival. What a beautiful process it has been!

On behalf of the Outreach Foundation and the Hillbrow Theatre team a, huge thank you goes to Constanza Macras and the super fantastic Constanza Macras-Dorky Park team – Lisi Estaras, Tamara Saphir Alisa Golomzina, Helena Casas, Sergio Pesanha, Roman Handt, Bordás Emil, John John Mbuso Sithole and Miki Shoji for your incredible care, love, skill and going way beyond the call of duty. I have been amazed and moved but not surprised by the commitment, focus, passion and love for the work by the cast of children and youth.

Thank you to Francois Venter and the Goethe Institute for all their support. We also thank Splitbeam for their care and support, Outreach Foundation’s Boitumelo for the sexy bikes and beautiful curtain they provided and the Outreach Foundation Music Centre for the provision of instruments.

Hillbrowfication was a production by Constanza Macras | Dorkypark and the Outreach Foundation’s Hillbrow Theatre Project in co-production with Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin and with the support of Goethe-Institut. Funded by the TURN Fund of the German Federal Cultural Foundation.

This is not only a journey out of Hillbrow to the National Arts Festival for a company of young and not so young people, but a day on the beach too! (For many of the cast, it'll be their first time at the beach and the NAF)
